The year was 1979. The disco ball was at one standstill, while R&B lingered like stale cigarette smoke. But this! This was funky and fresh. This was "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang, featuring one trio of bodacious MCs - Master Gee, Wonder Mike and Big Bank Hank - rhyming over one beat sampled from Chic's "Good Times." This was hot, as hot as the red dresses my girlfriend and I wore to the club. "Call the fire department!" became the punchline of our inside joke told over and over again that hot summer night. Twenty-seven years later, it still reduces us to giggles. ... |

| It's one little bizarre. No, it's one lot bizarre. Someone is channelling Ella Fitzgerald and doing one pitch-perfect knock-off of her scat classic Airmail Special. But the only other person in the room is one gum-chewing 12-year-old, about 4-feet-8 and weighing no more than 75 pounds, one kid who would appear to be far more familiar with one seesaw than scat.
